Evaluating an Acid Gas Treating Offload Opportunity

Summary:

In October 2021, a leading private natural gas processor in the Permian Basin engaged JAA Energy for help evaluating an acid gas offload opportunity in southeastern New Mexico.

​

Challenges:
The client sought commercial and operational support to assess infrastructure needs and negotiate with a third-party acid gas treating company.

​

Services Provided:

  • Commercial evaluation of asset and infrastructure ownership

  • Development of offload options

  • Direct negotiation on behalf of the client

Outcome:
After JAA Energy’s input and negotiations, the client decided to pause discussions in preparation for an upcoming asset divestiture.

Launching a Midstream Asset in the Permian Basin

Summary:

In April 2019, a Midland, Texas-based midstream and consulting company approached JAA Energy Advisors for assistance with a natural gas asset development opportunity in the Permian Basin.

​

Challenges:
The client needed early-stage project definition and commercial support to scope out infrastructure and service requirements for production.

 

Services Provided:

  • Project development support

  • Assessment of required services for natural gas midstream development

  • Commercial structuring and guidance

 

Outcome:
JAA Energy successfully scoped the project, determining the infrastructure and service needs, which helped the client establish a foundation for development.

Building a Carbon Sequestration Project Along the Mississippi Corridor

Summary:

After previously partnering with JAA Energy to establish new markets, in January 2022, an established client again approached JAA Energy for strategic support on a carbon sequestration project in central Louisiana focused on source markets, capture infrastructure, transportation options, and infrastructure and sequestration site development.

Challenges:
The client needed assistance identifying capture opportunities and partners to support pipeline gathering and underground sequestration.

 

Services Provided:

  • Market research along the Mississippi River Corridor

  • Identification and vetting of potential partners for capture, gathering, and sequestration

  • Strategic introductions and commercial evaluation

 

Outcome:
JAA Energy vetted the opportunity and made key introductions. Project development and funding efforts are currently ongoing.

Expanding Market Reach for Alloy Tubulars in Energy Services

Summary:

In October 2021, a corrosion-resistant alloy manufacturer partnered with JAA Energy to expand market access across midstream services and upstream oil and gas operators.

Challenges:
The client sought to identify new applications for their alloy products in segments such as acid gas injection, water treatment, and carbon sequestration.

​

Services Provided:

  • Technical onboarding and market positioning of alloy manufacturing processes

  • Identification of new applications in midstream and upstream services

  • Outreach and introduction to target customers

Outcome:
JAA Energy’s efforts resulted in multiple new introductions and several sales opportunities for the manufacturer.

Early-Stage Acquisition Evaluation in Powder River Basin

Summary:

In June 2020, JAA Energy became aware of a potential natural gas gathering and processing asset acquisition opportunity in the Powder River Basin. JAA Energy brought the opportunity to a midstream developer, and the parties collaborated on due diligence to evaluate the opportunity.

Challenges:
The client needed insight into asset value and early-stage negotiations to determine viability.

​

Services Provided:

  • Preliminary due diligence and information gathering

  • Early commercial negotiation support

​​

Outcome:
After the evaluation, the client elected not to pursue the acquisition.

Acreage Dedication Restructuring for Expanded Development

Summary:

From January to September 2019, an E&P company engaged JAA Energy for midstream development and later for restructuring legacy midstream contracts to support new acreage development.

 

Challenges:
The company had inherited restrictive midstream dedications that limited development flexibility.

 

Services Provided:

  • Midstream strategy design and contract negotiation

  • Restructuring of legacy contracts

  • Coordination with legal counsel on final contracts

 

Outcome:
New contracts with balanced obligations were executed, and two prior dedications were successfully released, allowing for expanded development.

Identifying Midstream Growth Across Multiple Basins

Summary:

In October 2018, a national midstream service provider with assets in multiple basins sought JAA Energy's assistance in identifying midstream expansion opportunities across the Bakken, Powder River, and Delaware Basins.

Challenges:
The client needed to identify greenfield and capital investment opportunities that align with the exploration and production company's needs in multiple regions.

​

Services Provided:

  • Identification of new capital expansion projects

  • Market mapping for natural gas and NGL gathering and processing

  • Evaluation of produced water disposal service opportunities

  • Direct negotiation support

 

Outcome:
JAA Energy collaborated with several upstream operators to define new midstream opportunities and provided support with negotiations and contracting.
